Bionic Woman shows power

Thursday, September 27, 2007

"Bionic Woman," the hip new remake of that '70s show, starring Michelle Ryan, beat its heavy competition at 9 p.m. Wednesday in the key 18- to 49-year-old demographic that advertisers crave most. This despite going up against the much-hyped "Private Practice," starring Kate Walsh. That spinoff, however, earned its own bragging rights -- it won the time slot in terms of overall viewers. And ABC won the night overall among both total viewers and 18- to 49-year-olds, since "Dancing With the Stars" continued its strong three-night run, and the series premiere of "Dirty Sexy Money" did reasonably well against CBS' "CSI: New York."

Yahoo Aims for Direction With Entertainment Division Shakeup

Yahoo has announced that it will be "streamlining the structure" of its entertainment division in an effort to create a unified direction for its Santa Monica operations. This shakeup is primed to overhaul a number of Yahoo's entertainment offerings including its TV, music, games, OMG, and movies properties.

Although the issue was broached openly on the company blog by Vince Broady, Head of Entertainment and Video, the change in direction is rumored to be on the agenda for tomorrow's closed leadership meeting. But based on Broady's description of the restructure, it seems like the move will be less of a hack and slash job and more of a strategic regrouping for the previously scattered division

Microsoft livens up Live Search to battle Google and Yahoo

Microsoft on Thursday began phasing in a slick new version of its Live Search service in a bid to gain ground on leading Internet search rivals Google and Yahoo.

Microsoft's improved Live Search will be available throughout the United States in a week and globally by the end of October, according to vice president of search and advertising platform group Satya Nadella.

"The core thing for us is to show user we made a quantum jump in search results," Nadella said while demonstrating Search at an invitation-only gathering at Microsoft's campus in Mountain View, California.

"This time, we feel we can claim we are as good as Google."

Google, based in Mountain View, is the world's most popular Internet search engine. California-based Yahoo ranks second. Live, which replaced Microsoft's MSN search service in 2006, has been mired in distant third place.

"Relevance of results has been my big gripe about Live Search in the past," Gartner analyst Van Baker told AFP during a "Searchification" event at which the enhancements were unveiled.

"It fell short of Google in relevance and I think Microsoft is catching up. The downside is Microsoft's messaging sucks. They need to give Internet users a reason to give Live Search another try, and that is missing," he added.

Vanessa Hudgens Photos Scandal Widens: More Lesbian Kissing Pictures

Saturday, September 22, 2007

The latest development in the ever growing pictoral saga is some photographs where Vanessa appears to be having a great time with some of her girlfriends. She can be observed wearing fishnets (She looks better than Oscar De La Hoya BTW) and other saucy attire. The photos appear to be taken quite some time ago, but as the scandal continues to grow, any racy photo depicting the High School Musical babe as a 'Girl Gone Wild' type pose has captured the attention of red-blooded males the world over.

Student Arrested at University of Florida

Wednesday, September 19, 2007

A University of Florida student (Andrew Myers) stepped up to the mic and began asking John Kerry a bunch of interesting questions during his visit to the campus. I believe asking him if he was a member of the secret society Skull & Bones finally caused the police to arrest him and eventually get tasered.

I actually disagree with the way things were handled. The guy was only asking questions. Questions that it seemed Senator Kerry were about to answer before Myers was detained.

Britney ordered to undergo random drug tests

A Los Angeles County Court commissioner laid down the law to singer Britney Spears on Tuesday, saying there was evidence that the pop star was "a habitual, frequent and continuous" user of drugs and alcohol and ordered mandatory, random twice-weekly drug tests.

The commissioner, ruling in a dispute between Spears and her former husband, Kevin Federline, over custody of their two children, also ruled that she must meet with a parenting coach.

Federline wanted to reconsider the pair's child custody agreement amid several high-profile incidents of erratic behavior by Spears.
Despite taking Spears to task, Commissioner Scott M. Gordon did not change the custody agreement, which gives each parent shared custody of the children.

The court proceeding comes about a year after Spears, 25, filed for divorce from Federline, 29, after two years of marriage.
The pair, who cited irreconcilable differences, have shared custody of the two boys since February.

Yahoo tests new social network Mash

Tuesday, September 18, 2007

Yahoo is testing an experimental social network service called Mash, apparently designed to lure users away from rivals Facebook and MySpace.

Mash has already been dubbed “an homage to Facebook” – but with a difference: users of the new Yahoo site can edit each other’s profiles. “Think the Wikipedia version of a social network,” the New York Times said.

Executives at Yahoo, under immense pressure to rejuvenate the ailing internet giant, were more cagey. “Ongoing product innovation is important to Yahoo and we continue to test various products and services to gain feedback from our users,” a spokesman said.
