American Idol, LaKisha Says Bye
Thursday, May 10, 2007
A week after so impressing Simon Cowell that he kissed her, LaKisha Jones was eliminated Wednesday on "American Idol." The Fox talent show is down to its final three contestants.
Performances of Barry Gibb songs the night before led to a particularly brutal week of Cowell criticism. "No kiss tonight, baby," Cowell had said to Jones.
Jones, 27, grew up in Flint, Mich., and is the mother of a toddler. She began singing at age 5, has a passion for gospel but was formally trained in classical music. Tears streamed down her face as she said goodbye — but she stayed long enough to get a career kick-start from "American Idol."
He‘ll compete against 17-year-old Jordin Sparks of Glendale, Ariz., the youngest performer left, and Melinda Doolittle, 29, of Brentwood, Tenn.
Gibb, the former Bee Gee, sang his own "To Love Somebody" on Wednesday‘s show, which was padded with marketing opportunities. There was even a lengthy tie-in to an action movie that isn‘t debuting until next month, complete with a visit from Jessica Alba .

Chris and Phil Slip Through Idol's Double Doors
Wednesday, May 2, 2007
It wasn't exactly in a "Blaze of Glory," but Phil Stacey did go out, and it turns out Chris Richardson wasn't "Wanted Dead or Alive" on American Idol anymore.
A day after belting out those respective tunes on Tuesday's Bon Jovi-themed performance show, those two gentlemen were the victims of a double elimination that was decided by more than 135 million votes, including the 70-plus million received last week before the Idol Gives Back charity special, during which no one was sent home.
The ousting of Stacey and Richardson leaves four aspiring pop stars in the mix, including the competition's sole remaining male, a newly dark-haired Blake Lewis, who gambled and won last night with his beatbox-heavy interpretation of "You Give Love a Bad Name."
