Apple says iPhone sales reach 1 million target
Tuesday, September 11, 2007
Just a week after slashing the price of its iconic device iPhone by a third, Apple announced Monday that it has reached its goal of selling 1 million cellphones almost three weeks ahead of schedule.
The milestone came 74 days after Apple launched the device in a much hyped way. Officials of the Silicon Valley company earlier had forecast that iPhone sales would hit the 1 million mark by theend of this month.
"It took almost two years to achieve this milestone with iPod," Apple CEO Steve Jobs said in a statement, referring to the company's digital music player, which has become a popular culture phenomena in the United States since it hit the market six years ago.
